.tel Story of Roy Gavin

I'm Roy Gavin and I’m 58. I worked enthusiastically in an area related to Construction Industry Management for 37 years, before losing interest and resigning.
A new challenge was needed. I grasped the simplicity of .tel and its basic use, as offering me the potential to create something meaningful.

There are too many undeveloped .tel domains – perhaps through want of a lead. I have a lot of .tel domains but, not for speculative reasons. As quickly as I can, I will populate and develop them. I have taken my time in deciding on the best way to progress my ambition and now I don’t have enough time. But I am excited by my Plan and its possibilities.

I think that chagford.tel is a good example of how a .tel site can be constructed. I chose Chagford for my first active site because it is a small town that I can get around on foot. I have no programming skills, and do not have the confidence or understanding to use the bulk upload spreadsheet at present, so all of the listings have been entered by hand. It is now substantially complete from the business viewpoint; A-Z by business name and Community contacts to be added soon. I think that many .tel owners lack IT skills and are bamboozled by the mechanics of adding click through advertising links.

I wanted to prove to myself that it is possible to build a meaningful site, capable of generating a modest income, that can be maintained manually. Most importantly, my site tells people it is optimised for mobile communication. Promotion is also by personal contact, email communication and handouts. I will also be issuing information to the local newspapers soon. With a small town you can explain concepts to people, or their friends; building awareness and confidence in .tel.

I have now started to populate crediton.tel. Again, it is quite a small town, although five or six times the size of Chagford. I expect to visit potential advertisers, showing them the site on both mobile phone and, if available, PC and enlist about 100 subscribers before making a promotional leaflet drop to most homes and other businesses. .tel is of benefit to tradesmen in particular as they move worksites frequently and often need to source materials and supplies, and local businesses, where many of their customers are dispersed over a rural area and are therefore frequently “in-transit”.
With directory participant, Sarah Davies-Hale of Dustit

Overall, I have nineteen geographic .tel sites under development in Devon and Cornwall (UK). The local economies are heavily dependent on tourism. The mobile searchability offered by .tel will make it simple to locate and book touring accommodation, lunch stops near the major roads, and find other tourist services and activities.

I considered whether to expose this cunning (naïve?) marketing plan to the world, or not. But I believe simple actions, executed with sincerity, work. chagford.tel shall be my reference example for crediton.tel, and so on. In developing small sites initially, it will better illustrate the actuality and potential, when marketing my bigger sites. It will also enable me to automate the registration process and generate some local employment opportunities.

You can follow my projects via quicklookmedia.tel, my main contact point, backed up by quicklookmedia.com, which hosts my terms and conditions - applicable to all of my sites.
